Langdale Dam To Be Removed Soon
Просмотров 14821 час назад
This dam has been there since 1908. For those of us that love this area of the river we are worried about the shoal bass population and what may happen when the dam is removed. I remember the awesome shoal bass fishing in downtown Columbus and the whitewater project nearly ruined that.... they are still there, but nothing like it was back in the day!

    As a potential first time kayak buyer that lives in an apartment I've been really thinking about getting an inflatable. Since I will be primarily solo river fishing which do you feel one would work best going back against the current? I initially thought the Pike would be the best with its keel in the front but maybe the Kuda would be better since it is more floating on top of the rather?

    • @ChrisFunktheFeralOne

      @ChrisFunktheFeralOne 3 дня назад

      let's hope you are right. that area and the one below it are heavily populated with shoal bass, but the 20 plus mile stretch of river above it has very few of them..... seems like those dams have been more beneficial than detrimental to them in this area.

  • @pepper7144
    @pepper7144 4 дня назад

    I guess its due to the years since I have been to the Ga side but I don't remember the dam being that tall. I remember as a kid there were huge boulders below the shoals at crow hop that are now silted over.

    • @ChrisFunktheFeralOne
      @ChrisFunktheFeralOne 3 дня назад

      when west point started generating 81mw a few years ago, it moved a pile of that silt and sand down into the top of harding at riverview. it will be interesting to see how navigable it all is when the entire run has the full flow from the dam during spring floods!

  • @therivergiveth
    @therivergiveth 4 дня назад

    I'm not educated on the issue, but how would removing a dam be bad for native shoal bass? Dams have been a problem for them. I get their will be an influx of silt for a bit.

    • @ChrisFunktheFeralOne
      @ChrisFunktheFeralOne 4 дня назад

      They spawn on rock. Silt totally extirpated them from any flow in alabama. We are also concerned with the manufacturing waste that is hidden under 100 years of it. The extra flow from dam removal also ruined the shoal bass fishery in downtown Columbus. I hope it doesn't hurt em there, but let's just say I am a bit pessimistic due to past projects on the river.

    If you are looking at buying these things for your boat, DON'T!! I put these things on my brand new aluminum trailer to hold my boat, thinking that all f the "reviews" were good. After the VERY FIRST trip to the water, the next time out they became hard to release. I then took them off, sprayed them inside with corrosion X, lithium grease and even MAX WAX!! They made three trips to the water, after the third trip I had to cut the straps with my knife to release my boat from the trailer. I currently have two giant chunks of rusted together garbage to show for my money. DO NOT BUY, unless you like throwing your money away.

    So grateful for your video Chris, which I stumbled upon looking for TPF info. My injury happened 4 weeks ago on a hike with my son, Slipped down a steep mountainside and fell on my TWICE previously injured right leg. I screamed and cried when it happened knowing the long slow road ahead due to previous ACL and meniscus tears in same leg. My rescue was very dramatic - due to the steep incline I had to be airlifted out by chopper via a rope winch. Bragging rights for life helps a bit! I sustained a medial and lateral TPF but thankfully no surgery required. Just out of straight splint into hinged but likely two more months plus on crutches. It's a long, hard, slow road, and devastating as I'm a Yoga teacher and had taken years to get this knee and leg back to almost normal after my last injury 6 years ago. However, I agree, that faith is our saving grace. Perhaps it's God's intention to truly show me what it means to SURRENDER. God bless you Chris.

    I had the opportunity to buy a used lime green kuda 126 an hour away, but it was sold out from under me. So, I bought the only display model pike 126 anywhere in Oregon (visiting from Idaho). I used it for the first time yesterday on Trillium Lake at the base of Mt. Hood and I really enjoyed the height of where the seat put me in the boat. Feel closer to the water, lower position of gravity, but still easy to get in and out of the seat at the shoreline or boat ramp. I'd like the weight and ease of folding the Kuda better than with my nose keel of the Pike, but the nose piece does help it track better through the water (less slap). From where I had to park (3x) yesterday, and how far we had to lug my boat with her lightweight paddleboard, I'm definitely investing in a kayak wheeled cart just in case. I was surprised at how fast the hand pump get everything inflated! The seat is quite comfortable for a big girl like me. I'll be adding handles on the side pontoons, and maybe a couple more YA mounting plates closer to the seat. The only other plus I saw with the Kuda is that my Whippet dog can walk around and stand on something like that better than the design of the 3-piece design of the Pike, but I still think the Kuda would have been more difficult to control (front end wag) when paddling harder in some wind that came through. Some great points to both boats, and some consessions.

      I haven't seen a PP mounted on one, but seen several with Torqeedo or Newport motors running em so I know it is fully possible. I added 4 more switch pads to the back of mine for my camera rig when I fish and that would be the same thing you would need to do to run a power pole. Check out Jeff Littles rigging video, he has a step by step process for adding the torqeedo plate that may help!
